About

About Rei

Rei Mori is a Japanese artist based in Düsseldorf. She works across painting, sculpture and installation.

Her work looks at the surface of materials: the weave of unprimed linen, the grain of cast concrete, the way enamel pulls back from the edge of an aluminium panel as it dries. She often makes one form several times in different materials, for example a set of blocks cast in glass and then built again in lacquered steel, so that only the material changes between versions.

Mori studied sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts and fine art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Her first solo exhibition with Galerie Richter, Holding Pattern, opened in Hamburg in October 2026.
