Holding Pattern

Holding Pattern is an installation at Galerie Richter and Rei Mori's first solo exhibition with the gallery. Visitors are asked to listen to the gallery itself: the ventilation, the floor, the traffic outside and the people moving through the rooms.

A grand piano stands in the main room with its lid open. Nobody plays it. Contact microphones on the soundboard pick up what the room passes into the strings, and the sound is played back quietly through speakers in the second room.

Every Saturday at 15:00 the gallery closes its doors for twenty minutes. Visitors inside are asked to stay where they are and not speak. On the first Sunday of each month the artist leads a listening walk from the gallery to the harbour. Places are limited and can be booked through the gallery.
